South Dakota Independent Bodybuilding & Power Lifting Association

South Dakota Independent Bodybuilding & Power Lifting  Association

Welcome to the South Dakota IBPA page and thank you for visiting. The IBPA has been in existence since 1983 and is found in over a dozen states. Our National Director Brent Mielke is based out of Sleepyeye Minnesota and is the owner of Dungeons Gym which has 3 different locations. The IBPA SD State Rep. is Ryan Tellberg (605-376-2488) based out of Colton,  South Dakota and is the owner of the Colton Fitness Center (aka Tellberg's Gym) . The IBPA has been in SD since Nov 11th 2010. The IBPA is strictly a raw league but we do allow the essentials to be used at meets ( belts,  wrist wraps,  knee wraps and other support systems based on individual needs decided on a case to case basis )We have a natural division and an open division. weight classes and other various divisions are as follows. The IBPA does not charge a league fee to belong like many of the other leagues do. We strive to cater to the lifters and make our meets affordable and a very fun enviroment!

Platform Rules
Bench Press: We have two commands that we use during the bench press those being the PRESS command and RACK command. The press command will be given when the judge sees that the bar has come all the way down and is situated and stable on the lifters chest. After the lifter has fully executed the press and the bar is stable at the top of the motion the rack command will be given letting the lifter know they can now return the bar to the rack. Other factors that the lifter must follow are the feet cannot come off the platform during the lift the buttocks must remain in contact with the bench,  there is to be no heaving or letting the bar sink into the chest as to create a springboard effect,  the arms must be locked out at the top of the press,  if during the press the bar stops going upward and any downward motion is seen the judge will tell the spotters to help the lifter rack the bar.
Squat: There are two commands given for the squat those being the SQUAT command and RACK command. The lifter may take the bar out of the rack when they are ready as long as they are within the time limit and after the lifter has the bar out of the rack and they are in a stable position the judge will give the squat command letting the lifter know they may now start their attempt. At the end of the movement the judge will give the lifter the rack command letting them know they may now return the bar to the rack. Other factors the lifter must follow are that the tops of the quadriceps must break parallel,  also if during the lift if there is any downward motion of the bar the judge will inform the spotters to help the lifter rack the weight,  also after the lifter is given the squat command the feet must remain in place until the rack command is given.
Deadlift: There is one non verbal command given by the judge during this lift . The lifter may take up his position and start his attempt within the time given after he has locked out the weight at the end of the lift the judge who has his arm up will drop his arm letting the lifter know he can now lower the weight to the platform. Other factors for the lifter to follow are there is to be no hitching of the weight this is where the bar is rested on the thighs and pulled up little by little in a jerky motion also if at the top of the lift when the lifter is given the command to lower the weight and he drops it that is cause for a bad lift.
General Rules for Lifters to Follow: No swearing on the platform,   no offensive clothing on the platform,  lifters should maintain good sportsmanship,  no earbuds are to be worn during the bench press or squat but can be worn during the deadlift.
Equipment: As the IBPA is a RAW league we do not allow bench press shirts,  squat or deadlift suites. Items allowed are wrist wraps,  belts,  knee wraps,  other support systems for medical reasons are to be cleared with the meet director on a case to case basis also let the meet director know if you have any other special limitations.

BANNED SUBSTANCES
The IBPA has been asked for our Banned Substances list from several athletes. Below is the list.  At all IBPA meets we will be testing for Banned Substances.  Athletes at random will be asked to take a polygraph test and to give an urine sample along with signing a statement that they are natural.  We are asking that all athletes have been clean or natural for 7 years.  These athletes that pass all tests and sign the statement that they have been natural for 7 years will be allowed to compete in the Natural IBPA portion of the all meets.  But for those athletes who might have taken a banned substances knowingly or unknowingly in the past seven years will be allowed to compete in the IBPA, but they will compete in the newly formed Uninhabited Division. We at the IBPA know that athletes want to compete in Bodybuilding and Power Lifting but have in the past taken banned substances with or without their knowledge. But we know that you want to compete. So if you have taken a banned substances in the past 7 years you now can compete in this new Uninhabited Class.  You will have the chance to leave this division with test in the future.  But no one will judge you and you will be allowed to compete. All we ask that you are honest with The IBPA. Testing will be done to make sure all natural athletes will compete with natural athlete to make sure there is an even playing field.  We hope the Uninhabited Division will help the IBPA grow and allow more athletes the chance to compete against each other in a even playing field.
